1996 (I believe) Subaru Outback, New York plates. The rear wheel arch rust is nothing new, nor is the rust under the rear quarter window. The door, however...

Kinja'd!!!

...that’s a new one for me. That silver piece right above the two-tone is the side-impact bar...

How this car is on the road is mind-boggling to me.

It’s New York, they don’t care nearly as much about rust, since they use so much road salt. As long as the chassis and exhaust isn’t see-through, it will pass. Ohio doesn’t even have state-wide inspection.

I feel like this should qualify as see-though. Its exposing critical pieces of crash survival directly to the elements.

It probably started as a scrape or scratch that left exposed metal and then never got fixed.

My 92 Legacy had a rust hole in the hood-along with enlarged wheel wells.

I’ve seen much, much worse than this where I live...

Rear fender spot is on every subaru.. I’ve seen the mid door rust on outbacks before, usually it starts if you’ve pulled off that trim and broken paint at the mounts..

Makes sense. That reminds me, I should really fix that scratch on my door...

I saw a chrysler sebring a day or two ago with enough rust on the door that I’m pretty sure I was looking at the vapor barrier behind the door card. Horray for Ohio making my rocker-less car not seem that bad.
